The special exhibition “Intoxication of Color” in the Kunstkammer Rau of the Arp Museum Bahnhof Rolandseck shows the use and meaning, indeed the language of color. Their diversity immediately catches the eye. Sculptures become lifelike. Immerse yourself in the blue of the sky or sink into a sea of flowers. The exhibition covers a colorful arc through time and across the entire spectrum of museum collections. Beginning with the symbolic nature of color in medieval art, it leads to its subjectively emotional use in Baroque painting. Through the momentary, light-flickering landscapes of Claude Monet, he leads us to the abstract color storms of the Fauves. Finally, it ends in our present day, with the color explosions of K. O. Götz (1914-2017) and the monochrome magic of Gotthard Graubner (1930-2013). The didactic and educational part of the exhibition also deals with paint production and techniques in the development of painting – from the egg tempera paints to the tube paints of the Impressionists and the acrylic paints of the present day.
