Color preferences and color home of humans

Our color preferences are shaped throughout our lives by the rooms of our childhood. In this context, I like to talk about color home, which triggers a feeling of familiarity in many people. But for decades, feelings such as homeliness, coziness and a sense of security were considered old-fashioned and reactionary. Native color tones, in which natural browns play a central role, are back in vogue today, for example combinations such as earth brown with gentian yellow, oak brown with moss green or leaf brown with violet purple. Natural brown tones and their combinations are not only found here, but in all densely populated regions of the world – just think of brown ochre with lemon yellow or sandy brown with azure blue.

Fashion trends and color composition

Nostalgic fashion trends such as country house style, home style or vintage style are cultural creations of the urban bourgeoisie that have little in common with the reality of everyday rural life. The ubiquitous brown of typical rural buildings not only looks simple, rustic and cozy in the warm glow of burning fires and candles, but is also enlivened by fresh colors. During the day, large windows ensure that the blooming colors of the garden can also be enjoyed indoors. We compose all these natural colors into a yearning image that helps us overcome feelings of alienation.
