Color in the mind – From perception to art
From 21 – 23 September 2016, the Institute of Media Studies at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen and the Research Institute of Ophthalmology at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen, together with the German Color Center e.V., are organizing the international conference Color in the Head – From Perception to Art.
The interdisciplinary conference combines lectures in four different sections on neurobiology and perception, nature and the living world, art and culture, and media and technology.
The aim is to make the diverse aspects of color visible. On the one hand, these are color perception, the correlating neuronal processes in humans and animals and the representation of color in the brain, including the formation of color preferences. On the other hand, the second focus deals with color in film, art, technology and design and shows outstanding examples of artistic and communicative expression with colors. In addition, new developments and technical innovations on the subject of color and light will be presented. Workshops and exhibitions, which complement the lecture program, take up the thematic areas and make the complexity of the topic of color tangible for the participants in direct application.
The international conference “Color in Mind—From Perception to Art,” which will take place September 21–23, 2016, in Tübingen (Germany), is organized by the Institute of Media Studies and the Research Institute for Ophthalmology at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen in collaboration with the Deutsches Farbenzentrum e.V. (GERMAN COLOR ASSOCIATION e.V.).
The interdisciplinary conference will present talks from four different areas: neurobiology and perception, nature and living environments, arts and culture, and media and technology.
The aim of the conference is to showcase the many and varied aspects of the topic “Color” from various perspectives and using a wide range of approaches. One focus is on color perception and its neural basis in humans and animals, as well as the representation of color in the brain, including the development of color preferences. The other focus addresses color in film, art, and technology, as well as design, and will illustrate and examine outstanding examples of the artistic use of color and communicative expression through color.
Furthermore, new developments and technical innovations in the field of color and light will be presented, while practical workshops and art exhibitions will complement the theoretical talks, giving participants the chance to delve even deeper into the complex world of color.
