There is something to learn in every movie, so what exactly distinguishes an educational movie from all other forms of film? What characterizes a good educational film? What significance do cognitive and emotional factors have in educational films? The presentation outlines didactic principles for the design of educational films using examples from the color.education research project. Colour.education is a non-profit project of the “Didactics of Visual Communication” department of the Bergische Universität Wuppertal and the Deutsches Farbenzentrum e.V. for the transfer of knowledge and experience from all fields of research, theory and practice of “color”. The world’s only educational forum on color is dedicated to researching digital teaching and learning formats such as eDidactics, eLearning, educational films and educational games. The digital teaching and learning platform provides teachers and learners with tested teaching and learning materials on all areas of color for educational purposes free of charge and without advertising. The extensive index of keywords and the thematic linking of all content via hyperlinks invites interdisciplinary browsing and participation and encourages holistic learning.
