Teaching a method for designing the effects of light and surface colors in architecture on the experience, behavior and well-being of users

Creating atmospheres from color and light is a central design tool in architecture and interior design. This design method, developed and empirically tested by the seminar leader, focuses on the experiencing, perceiving and acting human being.

In the seminar you will look at the functions that color has for contemporary architecture and how criteria and methods for architectural design can be derived from this. You will also learn about the current state of research and how you can apply the findings to practical examples. Professional color design begins with the question of what effect the respective rooms should have on their users.

The effect of the colors depends not only on psychological factors, but also on the quality of the light, all surfaces and their position and extent in the room. The aim of the seminar is to familiarize you with the function, benefits and effects of colors in architecture and to enable you to use them independently.

You will also learn an evidence-based method that can be used to develop sustainable color concepts for contemporary architecture that demonstrably promote the well-being, satisfaction and health of users.
