Lecture topic
The appearance of style-defining modernist buildings and estates, shaped by the requirements of modern societies, industrial building materials and technologies, shows how color, form and material can still be planned as a unit in the design process today.

Organizer DETAIl research
DETAIL research is a mediation platform for architectural research that looks at development issues and scenarios for the future of building.
The DETAIL research network brings together architects and stakeholders from industry, applied research and politics. The network collects, structures and communicates the results across all media. DETAIL research maintains a high-quality network of research-relevant players from universities, institutions and companies. In addition to communicating the content, DETAIL research conducts surveys and studies relevant to the target group and initiates its own research projects in cooperation with partners from teaching and industry. www.detail.de/research
RENDERING/CODES – THE FUTURE OF PLASTER
Currently, many planners and architects often see plaster as just the B variant of possible design options. This means that innovative building interpretations, especially in new builds, are now predominantly planned with other materials. The situation is somewhat different in existing buildings. The question of why? Occasionally, plaster is experiencing a renaissance, especially for new buildings (e.g. lime plaster in interiors). What could be the reasons for this? Why has plaster as a jointless surface design material, which is typical and significant for our cultural area, massively lost its share of surface area in new buildings over the last 20 – 30 years? What changes are cityscapes and cultural codes undergoing as a result? What must a [fugenloser] material – rendering/ CODES – of the future look like and what must it be able to achieve as a material so that it is accepted by planners, designers and society for the interpretation of innovative new buildings and the creative further development of existing buildings?
Students at Hildesheim University of Applied Sciences have investigated this question in a joint research project between the Institute for International Trendscou- ting IIT at HAWK and DETAIL research. Past, present and future analyses of plaster and their results will be presented for the first time at FAF 2016. You can see an excerpt from the study above. The study will also be thematically integrated into the public, interdisciplinary FORUM, in which you and other renowned experts on the subject of plaster and paint will discuss their statements on three afternoons. Future-proof materials and surfaces can be tested and discussed by trade fair visitors in the WorkLab. A networking event rounds off the program. The stated aim of the trade fair is to appeal to architects in particular.
